Service-Learning

Service-Learning is a teaching/learning strategy requiring students to develop and apply their knowledge and skills on challenging projects that help meet real community needs.

Many Tillamook School District #9 students and teachers have been and continue to be engaged in quality Service-Learning. Check out the links below to learn more about District #9 projects and see photos of students, staff, and community members engaged in local projects.

Natural Resource Projects- These are projects that involve students and staff working either on school sites or off school sites with gardening projects, revitalization of natural areas, development of plant and tree study areas, monitoring of water quality in streams, conducting surveys of wildlife, or simply studying forests, insects etc.

Down By the Riverside- This is an annual festival held for 3rd graders in Tillamook School District. It is sponsored by Oregon SOLV and Tillamook Estuaries Partnership. Posting the photos of the festival here allows students, teachers, presenters, volunteers and parents of the 3rd graders to see photos of the event hopefully sparking memories of the lessons learned there.

TOOLS Project -TOOLS is a pre-service professional development for MAT students enrolled at Portland State University (PSU), George Fox University (GFU), and Pacific University (PU) and Oregon State University.
