The members of Panther Pack work lots of extra hours serving their school, but find the experience positive, worthwhile and rewarding. |
Planet Beat
is an after school music appreciation group that meets once a month to
listen and to be exposed to worldwide cultures through music. A flyer
was sent out to all students and a first time meeting The first meeting was held to reflect on Christmas around the world with a focus on Kwanza. Civil rights era songs were introduced in January coinciding with Martin Luther King Day. In February we focused on dance through hip-hop and break dancing. March's theme was Irish music through a St. Patrick's Day celebration with circle and line dances. April was centered on rhythm and drumming. May culminated with a Cinco De Mayo celebration with students from the high school demonstrating Mexican folk dancing with enthusiastic participation from Planet Beat members. Planet Beat proved to be a great learning experience for all. It was great to see a diverse group of students from different grades and ethnic groups have such a fun time centered around the spirit of music! The staff involved with Planet Beat were Lindsey Arthur, Jim Nelson and Jace Widmer.
